History

History

Founded in 1974, the Saint Joseph Area Music Teachers Association (SJAMTA) aspires to promote community and professional growth among both new and veteran music teachers.

In cooperation with Missouri Western State University, the Missouri Music Teachers Association (MMTA), and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), SJAMTA provides many musical opportunities.

What we do

Benefitting Teachers…

SJAMTA members have the opportunity to:

• Meet potential new students at workshops each year

• Listen and learn from pedagogy presentations at monthly meetings

• Use rehearsal and performance facilities at MWSU

Benefitting Students…

Students of SJAMTA teachers are eligible to:

• Perform in monthly recitals throughout the school year

• Participate in district and state auditions hosted by the Missouri Music Teacher’s Association

• Gain ensemble skills in group concerts such as the “Monster Concert” for pianists

Benefitting our Community…

The teachers and students of SJAMTA share their talents with our community by:

• Hosting workshops and clinics open to any music student

• Raising funds for scholarships and grants for students in kindergarten through college

• Providing music at nursing homes

• Playing at East Hills Mall and local festivals
